Today, Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine — the Primate of the multi-million flock of the
Ukrainian Orthodox Church — celebrates his birthday.
On this day, we thank God for sending our Church and our people exactly such a wise, kind, and
prayerful archpastor, whose life and ministry are an example of faithfulness to Christ, meekness,
and spiritual strength.
Our Most Blessed Archpastor is first of all a monk, who carries out his obedience in humility and
full trust in God. By his example, he shows his fellow hierarchs, clergymen, and laypeople that
prayer is the strongest weapon against all wiles of evil, and inner peace is a reliable protection
from any upheavals.
He teaches us how important it is not to complain, not to stray left and right, not to multiply
quarrels or turmoil, not to lose heart, but fully entrust oneself to the will of God, keep the strength
of spirit and light in one's soul even when destructive storms and hurricanes bluster around.
In these most difficult times, when the laws of love and good are trampled everywhere, when our
people are suffering from the hardships of an insane war, and the Church is going through new
trials and overt persecution, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy remains for all of us a quiet yet
unyielding example of what it means to live with God and for God and keep faithfulness to the
Holy Mother Church and Fatherland.
Today, many speak of love for Ukraine, but few do anything truly good and worthy for her.
And our Most Blessed Archpastor prays: incessantly, sincerely, with tears, with pain and faith. And
that is by what he keeps millions of believing hearts from despair, inspires to follow the path of
the truth, and teaches not to harden ones heart.
Your Beatitude!
We thank you for your prayer and steadfastness, for your bright example of a true archpastor,
who never seeks anything for himself but lives for the sake of Christ and his neighbours.
May the Lord fortify you with His grace and give you strong health, spiritual joy, and many years.
May the Most Holy Theotokos always cover you with Her Protecting Veil and protect you from all
sorrows.
We stand by you, our dear Vladyka and Father, and diligently pray to the Lord to protect and
strengthen you — for many and blessed years!
