Every tree is known by its fruit. The fruit of love for God and one's neighbour, according to the Holy Apostle Paul, is longsuffering, goodness, and absence of pride and self-exaltation. A loving heart not only avoids doing any evil to one's neighbour but also cannot even think of it.
His Beatitude's humble and prayerful way of live and his 10-year-long selfless Primatial ministry at the see of Metropolitans of Kyiv attract to him the hearts of millions of people who seek God and salvation. At the same time, Metropolitan Onufriy does not overshadow the Saviour, but bears witness of Him with all his words and deeds and shows us that Christ is more important, better, and more beautiful than anything else in the world.
He shows with his life: 'Look, I go to my beloved Christ. If you want to be saved, come with me.' And this call of his finds a living response at the souls of his brothers-hierarchs, the clergy, and the flock of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church — a Church which currently carries out her ministry in the conditions of constant threats and open persecution.
In the times of most difficult trials of faith, consciousness, and humanity which it has fallen to us to live in, His Beatitude is an experienced and caring spiritual father and a wise master for all of us. He shows us an example of steadfastness and faithfulness to the true Church of Christ.
It is with heartfelt joy that I greet His Beatitude on his name day, the commemoration day of the Venerable Onuphrius the Great, and wish him God's help in bearing the hard cross of the Primate. I also wish him spiritual and bodily strength for many and good years of ministry!
