Dear brothers and sisters!

Today, we remember the two chief Apostles of Christ — Peter and Paul. They were very different in their origin, character, education. One was a simple, unscholarly fisherman from Galilee, and the other was an educated Pharisee, a Roman citizen. One was ardent, impulsive, unwavering, and the other was a thinker, polemicist, philosopher. But despite the outer dissimilarity, they were united by a spiritual kinship — unwavering faith, fervent love for God, and devotion to the cause of salvation. And all the differences and divergences of opinions were overcome by brotherly love.

Both Apostles walked a difficult path of inner crisis and spiritual recovery of sight. Peter unintentionally denied Christ, but after realising his sin, he at once repented and was soon reinstated in his dignity by the Saviour Himself. Paul persecuted the Church, even organised murders of Christians, but after the appearance of Christ to him, he was transformed and became one of the most zealous Apostles. They were changed by a personal meeting with the Living God. Both of them became witnesses and preachers of the Gospel — the Truth, for which they gave their entire lives without hesitation.
Peter's faith and confession became the stone upon which the Lord founded His Church. Paul became the Apostle to the Gentiles and a teacher for many peoples. Their earthly path ended in Rome — in the capital of the Pagan world, which became one of the centres of Christianity due to their feats.

At the same time, today's feast is not only about the past. We, who live today, also need apostolic determination, courage, and boldness. We live in times when the profession of the Truth of God also requires courage. When faithfulness to the Gospel, to the Holy Orthodox Apostolic Church of Christ comes at a high cost — the cost of not only comfort but sometimes also freedom, safety, and life itself. You and I are witnessing new oppression of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, when faithfulness to the Gospel becomes a reason for brutal persecution and diabolical slander. And that is why the example of Saints Peter and Paul is vivid and relevant.

Today, on analogia of many churches, there is an icon in which the Apostles embrace each other — and it is not an illustration of a historical episode but an image of the Church, in which different gifts, characters, and paths of service in the name of Christ are united. This is an example of the fact that unity is possible not through identity but through fraternal Christian love, repentance, patience, humility, faithfulness, and common work. Our Holy Church has stood upon this foundation for centuries, and, God grant, will stand upon it to the end of the age.

May the Lord, through the prayers of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, fortify all of us in faith, in firmness, in love and truth. May He give us the determination to be with Him, even if the path turns out to be narrow and thorny. And may everyone find in himself that transforming spark which turned a simple fisherman and a persecutor into saints of the Church of Christ.

Happy feast, dear brothers and sisters!
