On Saturday evening, an official delegation from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church arrived in Kiev by a special flight from Jerusalem to bring the Holy Fire to the Orthodox Christians of Ukraine. Delivery of the Holy Fire became possible thanks to the help and participation of the Ukrainian businessman and people's deputy from the Opposition Bloc Vadym Novynskyi.
The delegation was headed by Metropolitan Anthony, Bishop of Boryspil and Brovary.
At the international airport Boryspil, the Holy Fire was received by clergymen who would distribute it to various eparchies of Ukraine.
"Today, the Lord showed us a clear miracle – the Descent of the Holy Fire. It was an act of godly love to us in order to strengthen our faith in God and hope for a better life. Fire can warm you up, give joy, but it can also burn, bring pain and suffering. The fire of hatred always brings only suffering and pain. And the fire of love brings only joy, especially the fire of godly love. I want to wish to all Ukrainians that this fire, which we brought today from Jerusalem, only inspires peace and joy about the risen Christ in the heart of every Ukrainian. I wish that split, hatred and anger disappear and only love to each other stays. Happy Holiday!" said Vadym Novynskyi.
The Holy Fire is a fire carried out from the Holy Sepulcher during a special service performed annually on the Great Saturday, on the eve of the Orthodox Easter in the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem. The Descent of the Holy Fire symbolizes the coming out of the True Light from the Sepulcher, that is, the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
