Today, we celebrate the commemoration day of one of the most honoured saints in the world. Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, has remained an example of sincere strong faith and infinite warm Christian love for hundreds of years. Only such faith and such love can work true wonders, give purity to intentions and bravery to one’s heart, and change the lives of men and entire peoples for the better.
We all know well the history of the life of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Who else could stop the sword of an executioner with his hand at a place of the execution of the innocent? Who else could so courageously and openly stand up against power-hungry rulers and courtiers greedy for gain, deceitful schismatics, and idolaters? Care equally for ordinary people and princes?
The name ‘Nicholas’ means ‘victor of peoples’. And Saint Nicholas indeed became a mighty weapon of Divine glory. To this day, he gains victory after victory over many passions and sinful mistakes, which bound human hearts, and leads eternal human souls to new life and to the light of the Truth, to Christ the Saviour, through his miraculous help.
Today, we are in great need of his prayerful intercession, so that Saint Nicholas may help all of us to strengthen ourselves in the Orthodox faith, in Christian love and hope. So that with his help and by the grace of God we may have enough wisdom to stop the insanity of war and put an end to all this unrestrained rampage of the persecutors of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, who have long burnt their conscience out and completely trampled down our Constitution and mere common sense. By parasitising on false patriotism, they want only the deepening of the split-up in our society and strive to crush the last pillars of the edifice of the state.
I believe that Saint Nicholas, a loving pastor and father, always hears our prayers and will definitely interfere with the works of the lawless.
Pray, o Father Nicholas, as only you can, for our people and our God-saved land!
