Dear women, our dear sisters in Christ!
It is you whom I address today, and I wholeheartedly greet all of you on the Feast of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women.
On the Third Sunday after Pascha, we honour with spiritual joy the memory of the faithful and loving, barely noticeable in the Gospel but absolutely indispensable female disciples of Christ, who were counted worthy to be the first to learn about the Resurrection of the Saviour and become Apostles for the Apostles for their sincerity and faithfulness.
Today, we also remember with gratitude all the devout Christian women who amid the godless persecutions of the XX century prayed and suffered for the restoration of our holy churches and monasteries, a new massive baptism of our people, and a time for the repentance and growth in faith of millions of Orthodox Christians. I bow low to you, our dear grandmothers, our mothers, our sisters!
On this spring day full of Paschal joy, we honour all the women, maidens, and girls who, amidst the numerous hardships and dangers of this disturbing time, keep carrying the light of Christ to the world and giving all of us consolation and hope for the better.
By the grace of God, through the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and through the prayers of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women and your prayers, our dear women, the Church and the people will withstand and peace and kindness will triumph.
The Lord will not leave us if we are devoted and faithful to Him like the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, who remained with Christ to the end, who were not afraid of the angry crowd, cruel warriors, treacherous enemies, and death itself.
Our dear women!
I once again greet you on the Orthodox women’s holiday! I wish you peace of heart and spiritual joy, soul-warming hope, and strong faith. May love, happiness, and well-being reign in your families!
Christ is Risen!
